Step 2 of 8

Your Background

Real agencies hire people, not resumes. Tell us who you are outside the classroom — and give us a way to verify it.

Include leadership roles — they matter for department placement.

Example: "Jordan takes ownership of every project she starts." — Ms. Rivera, AP English

Step 5 of 8

Your Department

Where do you most want to contribute — and where you'd rather not. Dr. Lewis makes the final call from your whole application, but this tells him where you'll thrive.

Brand Strategy & Creative
Identity, design, voice, strategy
Advertising & Digital Media
Campaigns, content, ads, analytics
PR & Communications
Storytelling, press, community voice
Sales & Partnerships
Clients, pitching, relationships
Research & Analysis
Data, consumer insight, reporting
Events & Experiences
Live events, The March, activations
Finance & Operations
Budgets, systems, agency infrastructure

No wrong answer — knowing this just helps land you somewhere you'll thrive.

RMA has two student leadership roles above department member. Select any you'd like to be considered for.

Department Leader — lead my team within my period
Agency Captain — oversee all departments across all periods
Not interested in leadership roles this year

All leadership selections go to Dr. Lewis — they are not guaranteed. Returning members are given priority consideration.

Step 6 of 8

Reading & Learning

RMA runs a reading program alongside the agency work. Every student reads 8 books from the class library this year — connected to real projects and tied to your portfolio.

No — starting fresh
Yes — I've read some
Social Media & Content
Brand Building
Advertising & Campaigns
Consumer Psychology
Sales & Negotiation
Entrepreneurship
Finance & Business
Sports Marketing
Fashion & Retail
Data & Analytics
Public Relations
Event Production
The 8-Book Commitment
Every RMA student reads a minimum of 8 books from the class library this year. At least 3 must connect directly to your department. Every book gets a journal entry — Capture, Connect, Question. Your reading is part of your grade, your portfolio, and your DECA preparation.

Step 7 of 8

The RMA Briefing

Before you commit, read this. This is what Red Mountain Agency actually is — and what it expects from every person in it.

$1K
Per-Student Revenue Goal
RMA's collective revenue goal is $1,000 per enrolled student — generated as a team across the full year. No single person owes $1,000. Every department contributes differently. Sales & Partnerships chases clients. Finance & Operations tracks the number. Events & Experiences runs The March. Every role touches revenue.
Blitz Fundraising Client Campaigns Sponsorships The March Slippers for Stories
What Happens in RMA
The Blitz
A 14-day surprise fundraising challenge where all 7 departments activate at once. It happens when Dr. Lewis calls it — no warning.
🚶
The March
RMA's signature school event. Every department owns a deliverable. This is the highest-visibility thing the agency does all year.
🏆
DECA Competition
Chapter → District → State → ICDC. Every RMA student competes in at least one event. Your agency work feeds your competition prep.
📚
Real Clients
RMA markets real brands, school success stories, and the agency itself. The work you produce may be seen publicly.
What RMA Expects
Show Up to Your Department
Your team depends on you. Absences aren't just personal — they block agency work. Have a backup plan.
Produce Real Work
Not worksheets — actual campaigns, briefs, data reports, event plans, and partnership pitches that ship.
Represent RMA Professionally
Everything with your name on it reflects the agency. Standards apply inside and outside the classroom.
Read 8 Books
The library is a training tool, not a decoration. Your reading connects directly to your portfolio and DECA events.
Slippers for Stories is the cause RMA supports. Everything the agency raises beyond operating costs goes toward this mission. You're not just building a portfolio — you're building something that matters.

Step 8 of 8

Your Commitment

This is the last step. What follows is your application on the record.

Agencies don't stop when someone's out. Even a name and a plan shows you're thinking like a professional.

As a member of Red Mountain Agency, I commit to:

→ Showing up. My department depends on me. I have a backup plan when I can't be there.
→ Doing real work. Not school work — campaigns, pitches, data, events, and content that ships.
→ Representing RMA professionally in everything I put my name on, inside and outside of class.
→ Competing in at least one DECA event this school year and preparing seriously for it.
→ Reading 8 books from the RMA library and completing journal entries for each one.
→ Contributing to the agency's $1,000 per-student revenue goal through my department's work.
→ Building something I am proud to put in a portfolio and show to the world.
